dc.description.abstractDISSERTATION: This report is on a study at investigating into the finances and management challenges of private secondary schools in Uganda. The study was conducted from ten-sampled secondary schools in Mbale District in the eastern region of Uganda. The study involved 210 respondents: head teachers, one hundred and one students. The study used self-administered questionnaires and an interview guide as the data collection instruments. A review of the relevant written documents was also done to supplement the primary data. The data collected was presented in frequency counts and score tables with varying percentages calculated. Interpretations and conclusions were made according to the number of occurrences of each item. The study findings based on research questions reveled that there is a vast assortment of financial challenges in the management of private secondary schools in Mbale district. This in turn impacted on the staff and student welfare as well as academic performance. From the study findings, it was recommended that private secondary schools should set up income generating projects so as to supplement on the income from students’ school fees. Effective financial management styles was also a vital component to guarantee success. Areas for further research were also suggested as can be seen in Chapter five.en_US
